Review in Under the Radar

Having long been an admirer of Jane Commane's project at Nine Arches Press, having read at the launch of Issue One of its magazine, Under the Radar, and having witnessed its steady growth into excellent full collections since then, I'm especially pleased to report that a lovely review of The Knives of Villalejo has just been published in the latest issue of the afore-mentioned mag.

I'm grateful to Jane Commane, to Maria Taylor (the reviews editor at Under the Radar) and, of course, to the reviewer herself, Deborah Tyler-Bennett, for these generous words about my first full collection:

Under the Radar Issue 19

I'm very pleased to report that I have a poem in Issue 19 of Under the Radar, Nine Arches Press' flagship magazine. It's the third time I've featured in this journal (I was even in Issue One!), which continues to go from strength to strength. You can get hold of a copy for yourself here.

Excellent review of Inventing Truth in Under the Radar

Issue Nine of Under the Radar, Nine Arches Press' flagship magazine, came out recently. It's packed with lots of high-quality poetry by the likes of Richie McCaffery and Sheila Hamiton, while also giving space to well-crafted short stories.

The magazine finishes off with an extensive reviews section. It features a piece on Inventing Truth by Michael W. Thomas, who writes about my pamphlet as follows:

"Matthew Stewart has words down to a tee. He shows that, if you put enough effort into persuading it, prosaic language will reveal its poetry.As Inventing Truth shows, precision and compassion are not mutually exclusive, and care with the choice and placing of words brings rich rewards."

I'm delighted to have found such an appreciative reader.

Under The Radar Issue Three

The third issue of Under The Radar arrived last week and I was pleased to see one of my poems had been included.

The flagship magazine for Nine Arches Press, Under The Radar specialises in poetry. Its cover is always arresting, with Jane Commane's excellent photos featuring heavily. As for the poems themselves, there's something of a transatlantic feel to this issue, although my personal favourites came from closer to home: Marilyn Ricci's three pieces stand out, especially "The Sound Of My Voice", in which an extreme situation is portrayed and intensified via the accumulation of detail.

Nine Arches Press are working on a number of interesting projects. Under The Radar, pamphlets and full collections are all on their agenda for the coming months and years. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on their development.
